The Tell Me About You project asked disabled people to tell their own stories about State care. Their insights about past abuse provide guidance for ensuring disabled people are free from abuse and violence in the future.

The Tell Me About You project was conducted by the Donald Beasley Institute (DBI) to ensure neurodivergent people and people with a learning disability could tell their own stories about State care.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care accepted the research findings as evidence of the abuse experienced by these groups of disabled people. The stories shed lights on how the structure of State care enabled abuse to occur rather than the individual vulnerability of people with a learning disability and neurodiversity. This research tells us a lot about past abuse, but they also provide important insights for a future where people with a learning disability and neurodiversity are free from abuse and violence, regardless of where they live.

This presentation is for disabled people, families, whānau, aiga, close supporters and the workforce.
