Healthy Families Whanganui Rangitīkei Ruapehu is leading Growing Collective Wellbeing, a regional suicide prevention strategy focused on reducing toxic stress in the Whanganui region. Toxic stress—caused by persistent pressures such as poverty, housing insecurity, and discrimination—can have long-term impacts on whānau wellbeing.
Over the past six months, the kaupapa has brought together iwi, community leaders, schools, service providers, and grassroots voices to kōrero openly about toxic stress and co-design community-led solutions. In collaboration with researchers Alex Woodley and Nadine Metzger from Point, the mahi has transformed insights into practical strategies—strengthening resilience, shifting systems toward prevention, and building collective impact across more than 50 organisations.
At its heart, this movement is about preventing harm before it escalates, dismantling root causes of distress, and growing oranga through the collective strength of community, culture, and connection.
Join us on the 18th of September to hear how this movement is dismantling root causes of distress and growing oranga through the collective strength of community, culture, and connection.
