He Kāhu Kōrako | Matariki 2022 Huihuinga series: Insight to action summary
Published:
July 25, 2024
The 2022 Huihuinga Matariki series sought to bring whaiora kaimahi Māori, wāhine Māori and allies from the mental health, addiction, and justice sector together to amplify their experiences and understandings on how the critical shifts in the service redesign could be shaped from a te ao Māori perspective. Through exploration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi Hauora Principles (WAI2575), almost 160 tāngata from lived experience Māori, kaimahi Māori, wāhine Māori and allies contributed as to how the Crown could apply the principles in a real-world practice environment. He Kāhu Kōrako documents these powerful experiences, arguments and solutions as to how the system must change if it is to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments and provide health equity for Māori, and also critically, equity for the tāngata Māori workforce.
Te Whāriki o te Ara Oranga would like to acknowledge the kaikōrero that were involved in the Huihuinga series, for their collective energy and expertise, sharing of their Mātauranga and pūrākau to support the kaupapa and the design and development of He Kāhu Kōrako.
