Me Tū ā-Uru is an action plan for flourishing and abundant Aotearoa. The name reflects the whakataukī “Me uru kahikatea” signifying the strength found in unity and working together, much like the interconnected roots of the kahikatea tree.
Over the past century, environmental and social harm have been intertwined and disproportionately affected Māori communities and their special places. However, everyone in Aotearoa is harmed when our environment and communities are harmed. By working together and sharing decision-making, we can effectively care for our environments and communities.
Me Tū ā-Uru is an action plan focused on transforming relationships, governance, and policy for better environmental and community care in Aotearoa. Grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, it advocates a relational approach to environmental governance, prioritizing balanced relationships. The approach values whanaungatanga, utu, mātauranga, rangatiratanga, and mana.
Complementing our action plan are two toolboxes, A tika transition to a flourishing Aotearoa and Caring for our special places and relationships, offer additional guidance for environmental decision-making.
