Tukutuku te rangaranga whetū ao, nō te hautapu o ngā Rehua
Weave the constellations of the star, into your sacred being.

Mihi Tibble (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau a Apanui, Te Arawa) is the Founder of Tiaho Mai, a Māori Consultancy Services and The Hina Collective, the Professional Development and Leadership arm of Tiaho Mai.

In Cultural Consultancy, she is passionate about achieving equity through Mana Motuhake as a verb to drive outcomes. She has worked in senior executive roles more recently as the General Manager Outcomes in the urban regeneration/housing sector for the past eight years and in the Health & Education sector in both Crown and Hauora settings.

Over the years, she has designed and delivered Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Privilege/ Racism and Bias, Māori Cultural Competency, Wāhine and Māori Leadership wānanga focusing on amplifying our superpowers across Aotearoa as Aotearoa.

Raised by her kuia in Te Puke/ Te Arawa, Mihi has four tamariki and two mokopuna and lives between Maketū with her parents and Tāmaki Makaurau.

What is your take or Kaupapa?

I love being Māori! It’s a superpower as Māori but also as a country. We want to connect and amplify this superpower within organisations as tangata whenua and tangata Tiriti, creating greater outcomes for our people as a growing, changing nation together.

We also provide innovative Māori consultancy services in strategic planning, engagement, and whakapapa-based co-design solutions. This reflects the work undertaken over the past 25 years across governance, management and operations.

We also offer a unique suite of professional development and leadership opportunities in the areas of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Privilege & Bias, Engagement with Māori, Mātauranga Māori Leadership & Development Programmes for Māori working in Crown and Corporate spaces including reo, karanga, rongoā, atua wāhine under the Hina Collective. Having been in these spaces we know how hard and often tiring it can be holding up organisations and individuals while travelling our own journeys and identities. Our programmes in this space are aimed at uplifting and reclaiming mātauranga Māori ways of being.

Aotearoa Unlocked is our cultural competency programme supporting non-Māori. Together we lean into conversations to grow your cultural competency in a safe platform but also to lean into hard conversations to grow your organisations responsiveness to Māori. Our focus is on a personal internal journey that provides practical tools and insights unlocking our professional responsibilities, obligations and aspirations being excited for the work ahead.

Why is it important, and for whom?

It’s important! It unlocks and connects Māori cultural intelligence that sits across this whenua. In this modern-day context of innovation and solutions, our kaumatua raised us with pūrakau or who we were as navigators, leaders, composers, gardeners, scientists, poets etc. It’s a kōrero that is missing and removed from the narrative of “all of us” as Aotearoa, and we want it back! We believe that in this age of artificial intelligence and social disconnect, our ability to address and disrupt systems and archaic leadership models is possible through te ao Māori here in Aotearoa.

What issues does the take or kaupapa address?

The dismantling of the different forms of knowledge based on privilege, bias, and racism. Our kaupapa, instead, validates and connects mātauranga Māori as a legitimate body of intelligence to inform, disrupt and enhance how we work within all of our modern-day work environments. Through Māori models of leadership and professional development it is a requirement for Tiaho Mai to support every organisations who put’s their hand up for this journey.

How did you respond to the issue?  What did you do?

Through providing wānanga-based consultancy and professional development programmes. Here we learn about ourselves each other and how we traverse the spaces that are uncomfortable and challenging. We provide safe spaces across a number of different ways recognising the mana that is held at the individual, team, and organisation level. We look to connect your values and intentions to your organisation’s strategies and actions to drive and achieve equity.

What were the results or outcomes for you?

This has provided a game changer in gaining equitable outcomes through mana motuhake as an action. We want to mahi with agencies and people who are up for that change based on the shared aspiration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi unlocking us as Aotearoa.

Together, we weave a safe and supportive experience, drawing on the strengths of te ao Māori through connection, awareness, and inspired action driving equity!
