Ka Rere Te Manu is a kaupapa Māori, values-based, lived experience-led organisation dedicated to empowering the Consumer, Peer Support and Lived Experience (CPSLE) workforce across mental health, addictions, and social housing sectors. Guided by the whakataukī “Mā te huruhuru, ka rere te manu” — to adorn the bird with feathers so it can fly and thrive — Ka Rere Te Manu champions mana motuhake, manaakitanga, auahatanga, kotahitanga and wairuatanga in all aspects of their mahi.
Representing Ka Rere Te Manu, Aroha Crosbie (Māori) brings a decade of experience in addiction and mental health services, while Brody Runga (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Whanaunga) offers lived experience leadership in education, workforce development, and systems change across Aotearoa. Together, they share insights into the vital role of peers in emergency departments and multi-disciplinary teams, and the power of lived experience to transform care.
